So I did not get a million hits yesterday as theorized on Sunday, but more like 300. That's OK. This blog is not a popularity contest! It is not a gimmick to get as many eyeballs as possible! It is not ... what? The subject line? IT'S ACCURATE!! Sheesh! Gimme a break!

I did get hit last night, however, by the absolutely bizarre and ear-shattering sounds of The Liars, a noise-rock combo that opened for Interpol at the Joint. The lead singer/screamer/noisemaker was something akin to a combo of Wayne Coyne, Buster Poindexter and Beck. On crack. I have no idea what they were doing or saying on stage, but it was entertaining as hell. The Liars is not a band whose album you'd enjoy on a Sunday afternoon drive, but definitely a blast live. I'd read poor reviews, and I'm glad the reviews were half-wrong.

Interpol, on the other hand ... bored the hell out of me. Oh, sure, I danced when they played such songs as "Slow Hands" and "The Heinrich Maneuver." But--and I've told people about this before, just not YOU people--more than half of their catalog is too slow, too long and somewhat uninteresting. Subtleties that sound good on record just suck the wind out of their sails live. It doesn't help that aside from the guitarist, no one in the band does anything physical.

Then again, it might have just been me. I've found myself being tremendously bored at a number of concerts lately, even of bands I really like, such as Modest Mouse. I'd rather just put an album in my car stereo and drive. If I had to pay for any of these concerts, I'm sure I'd never go.

But it might not just be concerts. It's everything. I used to love going downtown and just enjoying the people and the scene. Now it bores me. As soon as I get out, I want to go back home.

I think--and we've gone over this before--I'm just bored with this city. Or at least, bored with wasting my time in this city. Or in my life. It's probably why I enjoy and look forward so much to my time alone, when I can work on projects, read, nap, whatever. I definitely need a change of scenery, whether its where I live or how I live. Anyone else feel this way? Heck, anyone out there who doesn't??

Hopefully, I won't get bored this weekend at Vegoose. Or Thursday night at the First Friday fundraiser. If nothing else, I'll get to see Muse again (one of the few bands I could watch forever) and Rage Against the Machine (SWEET) for the first (and likely, last) time.

In case you didn't see the Vegoose 2007 lineup announcement:

Rage Against The Machine
Daft Punk
Iggy & the Stooges (performing the album Fun House)
Muse
The Shins
Cypress Hill
Queens of the Stone Age
Public Enemy

Golden. I love the move away from a lot of the hippie stuff of the previous two years. But, of course, two of my favorite rock bands, one of my favorite electro acts and PUBLIC ENEMY? I didn't even know they were together/touring. Good times, good times.

But you will find NO INFO at www.vegoose.com right now. I guess just check back here.

p.s. Anyone familiar with LiveJournal layouts and how the hell I can redesign this? I know HTML and a bit of CSS and JavaScript, but cannot for the life of me figure out this LJ stuff.
