Writing pains

  • May. 5th, 2008 at 9:43 PM
I'm 1,000 words into a 2,000+ word story that would be past deadline if the editor had set a more firm date than "the first week of May." After a fit of drama surrounding the key interview for this story on moving day last week, I can only now write it (had to knock out those two CityLife stories for this Thursday's issue).

It's a slow-go, as it's a big feature on a band with a long legacy but short history, but I would be grateful if I could get the first draft done tonight, tweak it tomorrow afternoon, and turn it in by tomorrow evening. I'm sure the editor would be grateful as well, as it's possible the entire magazine could be simply waiting for my story. And yes, I'm being intentionally vague as usual -- you all should know I don't like talking about my projects until they are guaranteed fruition.

That being said, has anyone in Las Vegas seen the May issue of 944 on stands yet? Just wondering if it's out, as I have a story in there, and likely won't be somewhere the mag gets distributed until at least Friday.

I took a walk around the block and made some tea. Let's hope I can do this. I'm using my designated home office space for the first time in a while -- my last home office was really just a desk to hold incoming junk for further processing. I now have a dedicated room for it, and last night I knocked out one CityLife story (albeit only a 650-word piece) in just a few hours in this office. I'll let you know if I get similar results tonight.

Ooh be sure to post a link to the article if you can! Or I will send you money for whatever magazine this article is for if you can send it to me... I want to see how you pulled it all together. I'm glad it wasn't as disastrous as it seemed last week.
